Looking Hot on the Cheap

by Lemmonex on March 27, 2011

So you wanna be hot? But your wallet is feeling a little thin, you say? Well, let me share a few things this self professed beauty whore thinks could work for you. Sorry guy, back to tales of my ridiculousness soon.

1. Boots No7 Soft and Soothed Cleanser and Toner: At $7.99 a pop, you can’t get much cheaper for quality skin care. I like the Boots brand as it is affordable but doesn’t strip my skin. This is a regular in my rotation.

2. Maybelline Great Lash BIG Mascara: Yes, your mother probably uses this. It has been around for years and works great. Simple as that. They have rejiggered the brush and it makes your lashes look huge. It seems you can improve on perfection.

3. Sephora Age Defy Eye Cream: I know that this is $24, but for an eye cream it is still a steal. It is light and lasts forever. I am a convert.

4. Sephora Highlighting Compact Powder: Another Sephora product, but they obviously know what they are doing. I use this to brighten and wake up my face. It really makes a difference and can be used in place of blush for a more casual look.

5. Frizz Ease Heat Defeat Protective Styling Spray: Given the length of my hair, it takes a good amount of time to blow dry. Extended heat expose is bad for your tresses; make sure you spritz it down with this cheap heat protectant before wielding your hair dryer.

6. Gold Bond Lotion: Soothing and Fragrance Free: This lotion isn’t messing around. It is super healing without greasiness and I love that it is fragrance free. I find the scent of most lotion sickening (who the hell decided everything has to smell like cucumber?) and this knocks it out of the park by being effective, pleasant to smell and affordable.

7. Johnson’s Body Care Deep Hydrating Intense Moisture Body Wash: I have never been one to spend a lot of money on body wash/soap. It just isn’t my thing. High end shampoo and expensive foundation? Of course. But body wash just isn’t something I am willing to drop a lot of cash on. This Johnson’s body wash keeps my skin soft and doesn’t have a strong scent. Done and done.

I like this list. I’ve been looking for some new beauty products. Smelly lotions should be banned. They are ineffective and stink.

Do you wear contacts? I need some mascara anyway but want to make sure it won’t fog up the ‘tacts.

Thanks for this list! Here’s my tip: never ever buy Cover Girl pressed powder unless you find the fragrance free. The other stuff REALLY stinks, I think eucalyptus. Not what you want to be putting around your nose first thing in the morning!

I would also add to that Maybeline gel eyeliner. I picked some up at Target the other day out of curiosity, and thanks to said product, I’ve been rocking an intriguing smokey eye for a couple of days now. It goes on smooth and doesn’t budge. I’m normally a huge cosmetics snob, and I’m rather impressed by this product.
