I went to the White House Holiday Open House this morning…and all I got was this shitty picture.

I kid.  It was awesome.  I often take living in this city for granted, but it was pretty magical.  A woman flew in from California just to attend the Open House and I get to live here, to see this every day.

Too often I curse the metro and the cost of living and the tourists.  Today, I will give them a pass.

Back tomorrow…with a giveaway!

Is that the infamous “dish room” (or “china room”) where Annette Bening kissed Michael Douglas in “The American President”??? And yes, I just totally overlooked all of the history of the White House in favor of a 90s movie reference.

Glad you had fun!

Too freakin’ cool. Friend of mine was a congressional intern a couple years ago, and now knows all sorts of quirky bits of history about the White House and the Capitol Building. There’s a platform that’s assembled every so often for speechifying, stored in an unassuming compartment, that’s older than the town I live in. Stuff like that.

The West Wing side of my personality is very jealous.

Sadly that “side” is my entire personality.

SCREW YOUR STUPID COMMENT SYSTEM AND ITS TELLING ME THAT MY COMMENT WAS TOO SHORT.

Sometimes concise is good, asshole!!!!

(Your comment thing. Not You. LOVE you.)

Okay, first, I’d like to side with Ben on that whole “Your comment is too short” thing.

Second, I’m a little jealous, but chances are good that if I were given the same opportunity, I’d break something or fall in someone’s lap or start an international incident. I don’t have your grace and poise. Or your leopard print.

How fun!
I’ve only ever been in an ante room in the west wing. Where you were looks much prettier. That would be a awesome, though slightly daunting, house to decorate – I wanna know who has that job.

Good for you for opening up your eyes to what’s been right in front of you this whole time! It’s hard to do sometimes, but when you do it’s really nice to have a new viewpoint of the places and things you see everyday. I’m working on it in my hometown myself.

Did you by chance wear your Obama punching a zombie t-shirt? Please say yes, even if you didn’t.

That sounds like a lot of fun. We don’t have cool stuff like that in Chicago.

Right now, I’m watching American President with the scene in the “dish room” or “china room” and they kiss. Have you seen the movie? Anyways, is that picture from the china room?

I feel like I took DC for granted when I lived there. I miss it terribly.

Much <3
