(Just reading through back 'issues' of CC, and came across this post ...)

Oh man - yes. This was a very pleasant surprise. What made it even better was getting it in New England (DDs per mi^2: 2.7), rather than at home (DDpsM: .18). I was driving west through North Kingstown, on my way from Newport back to Rt. 95, when I stopped to get some caffeine to take me through the rest of the drive to the Metro North. We went inside and were apparently oblivious to all of the signage: "Umm, yeah, can we have two medium iced hazelnuts please?" "Sorry, you can only get the smalls for free." "Excuse me? I said medium." "You can only get smalls." "I'm sorry, what are you talking about?" "The free coffee - it has to be a small." "Free cof --" (I look at a sign.) "Ohhhh ... okay, yes, great, one medium, and one small." A, who usually drinks iced with just one Splenda (no creamer!?) couldn't drink it the way I like it (1 half-and-half, 1 sugar, which became 2 of each, I think, because we were in New England), so I got a medium-and-a-half out of it, all to myself. I had to pee on the train.

@Lemmonex: re: "And creating records on the fly was my hell, though I must say it didn’t happen that often".

I still wonder why they require us to fill in the date part of it so often, but eh... you do what you gotta do...

Trying to decipher messy overdue fine records is still the bane of my existence. Having lots to check in at the end of each semester is number two, but that's mitigated by lots of chatting with fellow supes and assistants. ;)

~T~

Man alive, those bins upon bins of books. I blocked that out.

Suddenly my librarian fantasy meter kicks in. Hmmmm...were there glasses? Perhaps a tight sweater?
None the less, that McD Southern Style Chicken Sandwich is the poorest imitation of CF. They should pay people to eat them.
I will need some help find some obscure books in the way back, if you would be so kind. Probably something on a top shelf.

Yes, I wear glasses sometimes. Ahem. That is all.

Just a reminder that those plaid flannel pictures are long overdue.

“No, I will not waive your overdue fees, you rich entitled bitch!”

Ha, you worked at the circulation desk in college too? Isn't it great giving those pricks what they deserve? A pickup artist might say that's when girls started paying attention to me, since I had to politely yet coldheartedly reject their requests. Toughened me up for all those "care to buy me a drink?" girls.

At GW, did you have a small group of really old patrons who have determined to enjoy their golden years by watching you toil to create computer records, on the fly, for the 74 books they're checking out that are too old and obscure to even have bar codes?

I mean, old people are cute and all, but didn't the guy get the memo that old men are supposed to have fun by feeding the ducks in the morning, drinking till dusk, and then sleeping with call girls at night? Sheesh.

Those pics will never see the light of day. They are not me at my most fabulous.

I was a circulation desk supervisor, which means I got to drop the bitch hammer on a daily basis. And creating records on the fly was my hell, though I must say it didn't happen that often.

Here in BFE Mcdonald's is the only one of the mentioned eateries that we have. No Starbuck's, no Dunkin' Donuts, no Chick-fil-A......*sigh*

Hi Lemmonex! I believe we crossed paths at 2blowhards.....hmmm, that seems a bit off-color.

No Starbucks! Where the hell are you?! And we like off color here...welcome.

I wandered into a DD this morning after my yoga class because the line at Starbucks was insane, only to discover the aforementioned free coffee special. Glorious.

I attributed my lucky, free find to the good karma I created in the yoga studio. Forget the fact that I'm now in Boston, and I can find a DD within a block of wherever I'm standing at any given point in the city...

God, I miss having DD on every corner. That was one of the best things about RI. When you said you were going to the DD on Park Ave, you could have been talking about one of three DD's in a 1.5 mile radius.

@ WiB ~ In the interest of truth in advertising, it’s worth pointing out that for McD’s, “southern style” essentially means, “ripped off from Chick-fil-A.”

Couldn't agree more. My first thought when I saw those biscuits being advertised was "So, this is McDonald's trying to be to Chick-Fill-a..."

Tricia

(Lemmonex - Stumbled on your food blog a while ago via JJD, and love it, love it , love it!

Yep, I'm still working @ Gelman. Now in Grad School @ Maryland, in addition. Free stuff is a good thing then you're a working stiff-slash-grad student...)

Hi there, Tricia...wow, Gelman Library. So much snark was cultivated there for me. "No, I will not waive your overdue fees, you rich entitled bitch!" And hooray on grad school!
